I actually dug this movie quite a bit. It's a strange movie, for sure, but I really like its style.
For people iffy on checking this out, quick note:
Its definitely more of an abstract beast, and you'll probably have to go in open minded and be willing to interpret it's 'themes' and 'messages' throughout, especially in its more 'stylized' scenes.
I notice a lot of the people ragging on it are people who hold on a bit too tightly to the notion of realism, I guess, and are disappointed when rational thinking doesn't quite work with, like i said, some of the more abstract portions of the movie.

During its showing in Cannes most of the audience left. If anything, that should be reason to watch it. That and the fact that Nicolas Refn is a very skilled director who amazingly operates with colours. Everything good about Drive was a) music and b) colour composition.
I was really disappointed in this film.. the cinematography is beautiful though

i don't know if i love it or just despise it, it surely is a different movie but it's so pretentious and focused on his stylish artwork that it fails to show the public a coherent history and doesn't really stand for his message which i though would be something like how being beautiful and obsessed about it could pervert the human being. so… i actually expected to see jesse being the actual neon demon and killing those 3 bitches, that does not happen and the movie stands out as: how jealousy can turn woman into savage cannibal horny murders…
So where is Keanu Reeves? haha

Movie for teenage aspiring model grills. I'll pass couldn't countinue watching it after the first 20 mins or so. It's cringy af too.
In case anyone who is reading these reviews is confused there are two people.
1. The people who judge it simply based on visuals. The cinematography is great and there are a lot of shallow but suggestive symbolic things throughout the film.
2. The people who judge the movie as a whole, largely on the plot. The plot is crap and there is little sense of time. The characters are all so bland and shallow that by the time you get to the end you kind of want something bad to happen just to make the movie interesting again.

This movie was over an hour long and it was Hella what T.T watch it in big screens if you can, for the cool effects otherwise only the idea of it was cool

Funny how many people call the movie bad because they felt offended. Being offended by everything is your fault, this movie is at the very least interesting to watch and visually beautiful. Hardly offensive.
Masterpiece gets thrown around too easily nowadays. Not a masterpiece, but also not bad. I think it's a pretty solid film that just offended the American audience.
You had me at "director of drive". Drive is my favorite movie of all time.

I hate it when people compare it to Black Swan.Black Swan didn't create this type of movies.Even Black Swan is almost similar to Perfect Blue — a japanese anime that shares the same themes and Aronofsky loved it and got the rights to film it.

It's not like black swan at all. Blood and gore. It got SO dark towards the end. I liked it but if you don't like very mature themes then don't watch.

Only commendable thing about this movie is the screams of the girl next room who was apparently being killed, seriously creepy, sounded very realistic. Other than that only movie this director did that was worth watching was Drive and even that wasn't THAT great.
and its no like black swan but I do love that movie too
