Nice trailer disappointing movie
Ok, ok, ok. A friend of ours is moving a whole state away and she wanted to hang out one last time tonight.
(Wall of random thoughts incoming, as it's 12:34 at night.)
I went into this movie with no expections. I had seen no trailers. I went in completely blind, expecting Nanny McPhee with minorly superpowered kids. A cute fluffy film.
HOO BOY, WHERE TO BEGIN?
I didn't expect to enjoy this movie. The characters were charming, Miss Peregrine is just awesome, and the villains are hammy, yet appealing.
(The setting was just relatable to me, too. I'm biased, sue me.)
Didn't expect to see Samuel L. Jackson, because apparently I live under a rock. Good God he was hilarious. Watch the air scene, you'll see what I'm talking about. You can tell he's having the time of his life hamming it up and not giving a care.
The fantasy elements are great, and this is Tim Burton's best in awhile. (Heh, one look at an uninviting suburb full of offputting people with false smiles, and you know it's a Burton movie. There was even a shot where a bunch of relatives got all up in Jake's face acting waaaaay too happy to see him. It reminded me of Edward Scissorhands.)
The editing is a little jarring sometimes, but it's not distracting.
The main character is a little bland… but that's the point. He's ordinary, and that doesn't make the kid any less likable.
I DID NOT. EXPECT. EYE GORE. AND. SLENDERMEN. GIANT SLENDERMEN wearing carnations. I was so giddy and uncomfortable, and my friends were all cracking up.
Truly the best Slenderman movie that isn't even a Slenderman movie
I also loved the battle scene with the reanimated skeletons. Pirate skelebros vs Giant Slendermen. So cool.
So, yeah, a pretty fun movie. Not oscar material, but it piques my interest enough to go check out the books. Thumbs up.
It was great. ??The skeletons vs. monsters scene cracked me up. I laughed ?so hard that everybody was giving me looks at the theatre. ?

I have to give ‘Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children’ an A+. I thought this film was fantastic! This was very creepy yet child-like. It was a great mix. I literally do not have one bad thing to say about it. The visuals, the acting, the story, the music — everything was wonderful. It was so well-made and you were never once bored or lost. It told the story perfectly with no missing holes. I would see this again and again and recommend it to everybody.
